Nayat Karaköse received her BA in Sociology from Galatasaray University. She holds an MA degree in Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Essex.
Nayat was an Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights at Columbia University in 2014. She participated in the Distinguished Humphrey Fellowship Program on Media and Information at the University of Washington in August 2021.
Since 2015, Nayat Karaköse has worked as the Director of Programs at the Hrant Dink Foundation, based in Istanbul, Turkey. Karakose oversees projects related to hate speech, discrimination, cultural heritage, minority rights, and dealing with the past. Her expertise lies in areas such as hate speech, memorialization, minority rights, and dealing with the past.
In addition to her other roles, Nayat is responsible for the coordination of the 23.5 Hrant Dink Site of Memory, the first memory site in Turkey dedicated to slain Armenian journalist and founder of the Turkish-Armenian Agos newspaper, Hrant Dink.
Prior to her current role she worked for a UK-based charity, Global Dialogue. Between 2010 and 2015, she worked as a freelance journalist for the Agos newspaper.
